Hygienic preparation of the skin
The person providing care should first prepare the part of the body where redness has appeared due to prolonged pressure in bed, in order to stop the process of tissue breakdown. The area should be washed with lukewarm water using baby soap or glycerin soap, then gently dried with a clean, soft towel by patting the skin, so that the initial skin damage is not aggravated.Since tissue breakdown may already have started, immediate action is necessary.
Local application and frequency of treatment
The affected area should be covered with the balm so that the part showing signs of breakdown remains under its effect. The balm should be rubbed into the area several times a day until the redness disappears. Apply the balm and gently massage the area with fingertips for 5–10 minutes, adding more balm periodically during the massage.
Prevention of severe skin damage
It is also important to reposition the patient regularly in bed and ensure that new areas of redness do not appear, as it is a warning sign that a severe decubitus ulcer may develop on that part of the body if not treated in time with the balm as a preventive measure.
